Senator Dole
First I do want to thank you for your response to my letter and I do appreciate your concerns about the Fair Tax. But, I do believe your are concerns are not valid. So I will try to address them here.
Let’s take your first concern the home tax deduction. If there was no income tax why would you need a tax deduction? I am a home owner and I did not buy my house because of the home tax deduction. I bought it because I wanted to own not rent my home. Now according to the IRS they state that 70% of home owners do not even use the home deduction. Now let’s take someone who is making $60,000 a year their take home pay is about $3,800.00 a month.(Fair Tax the Truth, Answering the Critics) By using the tax deduction they might be able to bring their take home pay up to about $4,000.00 a month. That’s only $200.00 a month more. Now if they were not paying income tax their take home pay would be about $1,200. a month more. Which do you think they would like more $200.00 or $1,200.00? And which would be a better benefit to them and help them buy a new home?
Next let’s take your next concern chartable contributions. First thing I want to do is remind you that before there was a income tax deduction people like J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller were giving away millions. According to Giving USA and other organizations that track this stuff Americans give when they have more money, not according to how much of a tax deduction they get. Actually the better the economy the more Americans give. As Americans income goes up so do chartable contributions.
So as I hope you can see that the very same reasons you say concern you are the very same reasons you should support the Fair Tax.
I would like to thank Congressman John Linder and Neil Boortz for their book Fair Tax The Truth: Answering the Critics for most of the information provided here.
